West Tennessee Street Attempted Homicide Suspect Arrested
February 12, 2025
On September 11, 2024, the Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) responded to the 2500 block of West Tennessee Street in reference to a shooting. When officers arrived on scene, they observed an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. That victim was later transported to a local hospital and thankfully survived their injuries.
During the investigation, detectives with TPD's Violent Crimes Unit discovered that the victim and suspect, Steve Barrett Jr., were friends and agreed to meet to discuss their differences. When the victim arrived at the location and exited his vehicle, Barrett held the victim at gunpoint. While doing so, Barrett attempted to kidnap the victim and demanded the victim get back into the vehicle. When the victim refused, Barrett shot the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene.
On January 30, 2025, Barrett was taken into custody in Palm Beach County and later transported to the Leon County Detention Facility on February 10, 2025.
